The RAD Micro is our latest offering and is intended for those that need quality sound in a small package. There are few "quality" micro speaker systems are the market today. Many designs are handicapped from the start by insisting to use some sort of cheap paper cone 3" driver and a ž" tweeter. This means they have to design a crossover around what are normally very low quality drivers to begin with. And even then, the crossover is usually just a single, low quality capacitor on the tweeter to keep from damaging it with low frequency material. We suggest that a better solution is a good quality, full range 3" driver. It is capable of handling low frequency information down to 85Hz and high frequency information all the way up to 20KHz. There's no need for a crossover whatsoever. The aluminum phase plug helps to increase voice coil cooling and therefore power handling, as well as increasing high frequency extension.
Another issue with most "micro" speaker systems is the enclosure. Most are made out of one of two products. One is injection-molded plastic and the other is ˝" particle board. Both of these suffer from resonance problems that will color the bass and vocal information. Our cabinets are made from ˝" MDF, which is both structurally and acoustically superior.
And last, but certainly not least, is the finish. Most are finished in some sort of vinyl contact paper which scratches and peels very easily. We use real wood veneers and quality plastic laminates from WilsonArt.
The Micro is designed to be placed on or near a wall or in a bookcase.

RAD Metals

|
RAD Home Theater is proud to introduce our latest loudspeaker, the Metals. Our goal was to produce a small, 2-way with very good bass output while still having very natural mids and highs. They excel at percussion and attack, whether it is drums or the plucked strings of a guitar. Cymbals are very lifelike without being overly harsh or bright. Due to their lower efficiency they will not wake your neighbors but will play at moderate SPL's very well. The Metals are an excellent choice in a music or Home Theater system where the room is not overly large.
Speaker Type: Vented two way
Woofer: 5", shielded, aluminum cone
Tweeter: 1" shielded, titanium dome
Efficiency: 83dB 1W, 1M
Power Handling: Continuous 80W, Peak 150W
Nominal Impedance: 8 ohms
Frequency Response: 60Hz20000Hz, + 3dB
Dimensions: 12"H x 7.5"W x 9.25"D
Weight: 16 lbs. each
Other Features: air core inductors, Bennic Metallized Polypropylene capacitors, Eagle Metal Oxide Film non-inductive resistors, MIL-spec Teflon silver coated stranded copper wiring, all point to point soldering with silver solder.
Price: $350/pr.

RAD Pulsar 9.1

|
My initial inspiration to build the Pulsar 9.1 was to design a higher-end home theater speaker system that could reproduce dialogue, effects, and music with the speed and accuracy video media requires. The design goals were high efficiency and high output from a small footprint tower. The 9 3" drivers have the same surface area as an 8" woofer but with the better midrange quality of a smaller driver. The result was a speaker that could not only keep up with movies but, were extremely fast, forward, and lively for music. Plus, the high efficiency design works well with a wide variety of amplification.
They have plenty of output down to 60Hz in-room. When crossed over to a subwoofer around 80Hz they will play very loud. (Louder than I'd ever listen for any length of time in my large, completely open living room with very low distortion!)
Speaker Type: Vented two way
Woofers: 9 3", shielded, coated paper cones
Tweeter: 1" shielded, high efficiency silk dome

RAD Custom Stands Option

 |
RAD Home Theater built our first pair of stands when we decided we needed something to compliment the cherry GR Research A/V-2's which we were building to be used as demo units in our shop. Danny Richie liked them so much that he wanted to offer them as a matched set for his customers who purchased finished cabinets.
Should you choose to purchase A/V-1's or A/V-2's from us you can also have stands built to match your speakers' finish. The stands have an MDF center column which is 6" square with the same 3/4" radiused corners that we feature on the cabinets. The column is hollow, allowing it to be filled with sand, lead shot, or even kitty litter. The top plate is a single layer of 3/4" MDF cut to the dimensions of the cabinet and with it's corners rounded to the contour of the cabinet. The base plate is 14"W x 15"D x 1.125" thick MDF. Both the top and base plates are painted with a semi-gloss black latex paint. The stands even come with our standard 3/8" spikes. All hardware necessary for assembly is also included.
Since we first introduced these we have custom built stands for customers wanting high quality units for their speakers from various other manufacturers including ACI, Ascend Acoustics, and Cliffhanger Audio. When building stands for other manufacturers' speakers we work with the customer to determine the dimensions of the top plate and base plate as well as the column height. This way the stand is designed to work with the speaker's aesthetics instead of having a top plate that is so wide that it extends past the width and depth of the speaker. Or with top and base plates that are so small that they render the speaker unstable. In other words, we work with you to make sure that the stands are exactly the way that you want them.
So if you have speakers and are having trouble finding exactly what you want in a speaker stand email us for a price quote.
Prices with standard veneers are as follows: up to 25" tall are $249/pr., up to 30" tall are $299, over 30" tall are $349. *
* Custom dyes and stains require a 15% upcharge, optional veneer prices will be based on the type of veneer selected.
